Speed and Seatbelt Survey

This project involved a comprehensive survey of car and truck free speeds on a wide range of road classes in Ireland. The survey was carried out in 1999 for the National Roads Authority on Motorways, Dual Carriageways, National Primary roads, National Secondary roads, Non-National Roads, Urban Arterials and Urban Residential Roads.

Free speed measurements were carried out on all road classes, and a comprehensive statistical analysis of the results was produced. In addition, a nationwide survey of seatbelt wearing rates was also conducted on a broad range of road classes, and the seatbelt usage rates were reported by Road Class for drivers and passengers, with separate reporting for males and females. The results are contained in a 4 volume report published by the National Road Authority in 2000.
